Deep down, the drunken man wants to change, but sometimes change comes too late. Trey Knowles uses the song as a mirror for domestic violence offenders, calling attention to abusive behavior and the need for accountability and change.
There Is No Excuse for Domestic Violence
Domestic violence can include physical, sexual, emotional, economic, psychological, or technological abuse; threats of abuse; and other patterns of coercive behavior used to influence or control another person in an intimate relationship. This can include behavior that intimidates, manipulates, humiliates, isolates, frightens, terrorizes, coerces, threatens, blames, hurts, injures, or wounds someone.
This behavior must stop. Those who commit abuse should take responsibility for their actions, apologize to the person they harmed, repent, and change their behavior. Abuse is not love.
Husbands, Love Your Wives

In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. No one hates his own body; instead, he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church.
